The .htaccess file within the cause of your website's directory consists of a RewriteRule which redirects every incoming request to Wordpress's bootstrapper. It most likely looks something similar to this:

RewriteRule ^(.+)$ index.php?$1 [QSA,L]

You need to add two Conditions for this Rule. These conditions provide exceptions that make certain the Rule is just performed if there's no (!) file (-f) or no directory (-d) available that suits the asked for URL:

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.+)$ index.php?$1 [QSA,L]

Which should have the desired effect.

check .htaccess file, that may be a problem. (redirection if page doesn't exist, inside your situation, http://mywebsite/x/index.html or .php doesn't exist)
