I have spent a couple of hrs attempting to configure my Apache server to make use of SSL without any public IP, just localhost. I have produced the certificate OK, I believe (it's been just like a quick studies on black miracle for me personally), so when I attempt tro access https://localhost, the browser states "Attached to localhost..." around the status line but simply keeps loading forever. Here is a snippet from error_log:

[Fri Mar 27 22:03:39 2009] [info] Loading certificate & private key of SSL-aware server

everything appears to become OK there, but, meanwhile, at ssl_engine_log...

some searching relating to this permission denied and also the apr_proc_mutex_lock failing has not produced anything helpful. Only a few results relevant to MPM and perchild option, but because they were old (years 2002 and 2003) and that i don't can actually draw any conclusions after reading through them, I am asking if there's a method to overcome this issue. Well, first: what's really the issue? Can there be any type of incompatibility between modules? Must i recompile something (please, The almighty, not again, no)?

Thanks ahead of time.

You need to be grateful you are not using apache 1.3--it had been way harder to obtain SSL running on that!

mod_ssl needs write permission on the couple files for this to operate. Have a look at this setting and make certain apache has write accessibility directory that file is within. For instance, if states (for instance):

SSLMutex file:/var/run/apache/ssl.mutex

You have to verify apache can email /var/run/apache.

The majority of most of these errors are often some type of permission error around the filesystem.
