I'm about modifying the prior publish (and then publish) link in Wordpress. but I'm not sure how you can show the date from the known publish.

I'm not going an exterior wordpress plugin with this answer, however the code in functions.php is going to be great. (Note: I have read this. if this is the answer how to use it in very practical code?)

the ultimate result ought to be such as this:

< Previous (12 June 2011) Current Publish (14 June 2011) Next >

<?php echo get_the_date( 'd/m/Y' ); ?>

this can also show the date even posts in a day

The next code will output the hyperlink within the correct format out of your single.php template:

    <?php $prev_post = get_previous_post(); ?>
    <a href="<?php echo get_page_link($prev_post->ID); ?>">&lt; (<?php echo mysql2date('d F Y', $prev_post->post_date, false) ?>) Previous</a>

I'll leave the following link being an exercise for you personally.
