Let me be aware of standard method to benchmark a SQL Sever Query, preferibly Let me know of the tools that include SQL Server instead of third party tools.
set showplan_text on will highlight the execution plan (to determine it graphically use Control + K (sql 2000) or Control + M (sql 2005 +)
set statistics IO on will highlight the reads
set statistics time on will highlight the passed time
Use SQL Profiler.
For .Internet programs, filter that Application title by '.Internet%' and you will omit other extraneous queries.
+1 around the execution plan. Came from here you can observe where constantly has been put in your unique query. Eg. 85% of times is spent table checking a specific table, are you able to put a catalog on that table to enhance it? and so forth.
