What's a great way to benchmark apache having a delay between demands from the unix command line? The only real benchmark tool I understand in the command lines are ab also it does not support delays.

I simply love The Grinder, a completely prrr-rrrglable testing tool. Sadly you cannot run it entirely in the command line, but I'd really try it out personally.

Failing that, you've httperf that is indeed command line and supports "user periods" (that's, delays) and several other available choices.

Commercial tools like Hewlett packard loadrunner and Borland Silk have this feature. We refer to this as delay between request as THINK TIME for n simulated customers.
