I've got a fresh Joomla 1.7 install.

I've got a valid, confirmed, working google applications email will be able to log into through the web client. I've pop and imap enabled.

Configuration within Joomla Global Configuration Tab within the Mail Configurations section is the following:

Mailer: SMTP
From Email: [-me-]@decherney.com
From Name: Test Site Email
Sendmail Path: /usr/sbin/sendmail
SMTP Authentication: Yes
SMTP Security: SSL
SMTP Port: 465
SMTP Username: [-me-]@dechereny.com
SMTP Password: [-password-]
SMTP Host: smtp.gmail.com

Anytime the website attempts to send email whether for registration, mail, or any other notification services it reviews the next:

SMTP Error! Couldn't connect with SMTP host.

I've attempted using port 587, using phpmail using the smtp host as ssl:smtp.gmail.com:465, and virtually almost every other solution suggested around the internet.

If anybody includes a suggestion/answer I'd considerably appreciative.

Try setting the SendMail Road to : smtp.gmail.com

Anything else looks good.

works out all I needed to do was add the next line towards the php.ini file

extension=php_openssl.dll

(or uncomment it)
