I'm your shared account on the host company with several domains. Goal would be to have each domain title get their own virtual sites. During my personal set up htdocs/ directory, I've got a subdirectory setup for every domain title, something quite such as this:

htdocs/

    foo.com/

        index.html

    bar.com/

        test.txt

Let me serve http://foo.com/index.html rather than http://foo.com/foo.com/index.html.

Is the best way to setup .htaccess in htdocs/?

RewriteEngine on

RewriteCond % .*foo.com [NC]

RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ /foo.com/$1 [L]

I suppose no as this doesn't seem to be working and I am not granted use of error logs. What's the proper syntax?

You should not have to setup .htaccess rules for various domain names like this in case your on the shared account. Most hosting companies permit you the capacity to setup add-on domain names, which creates the correct mappings for you personally.
