I've got a website admin area I wish to safeguard having a password..

so within the admin folder I put an .htaccess and .htpasswd files that contains this:

.htaccess:

AuthUserFile C:/wamp/www/website_project/admin/.htpasswd
AuthName "Restricted Area"
AuthType Basic
Require valid-user

.htpasswd: (produced utilizing an online tool)

admin:sOSDxAdJI4xx2

After I visit the admin folder, a popup is proven where I have to place account information... so so far its working fine, BUT whether I place a proper password or otherwise I recieve exactly the same popup again after i hit 'enter', I'm able to never access the folder...

Any suggestions?

In line with the AuthUserFile line, it appears like you are using Apache on Home windows, with a different default password file encryption formula than other platforms. Use the htpasswd command-line tool to create the password and find out if you've still got exactly the same problem.
