I am focusing on a wordpress website and I am trying to setup a nearby test-atmosphere for development reasons. I am running the MAMP (Mac Apache MySQL PHP) stack.

I am encountering the next error:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 262144 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 4864 bytes) in /Users/casey/Documents/workspaces/yofreesamples.com/wp-includes/functions.php on line 1174

I have tried to boost the memory limit by modifying line 28 in wordpress-config.php:

define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '2024MB');

by such as the following value in index.php

ini_set('memory_limit','64M');

with no luck for just about any memory values I have attempted. I am relatively recent to wordpress, anybody have idea what's happening?

Possibly the MAMP configuration does not permit you to override the memory limit programmatically. Place it in php.ini as referred to here.
