So redhat uses python 2.4 and I have to upgrade to python 2.6 (and so i did an altinstall) does anybody understand how to install mod_python? (I'm setting up from source.) This is exactly what I went:

./configure --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs
./configure --with-python=/usr/local/bin/python2.6
make
make install

But based on a stack trace I recieve mod_python continues to be using python 2.4 (the default for redhat 4) I want it to make use of 2.6. I am still a new for this... any pointer within the right direction could be greatly appreciated!

N.B.: I can not use wsgi because my server hosts another websites that depends on mod_pyhton and when I install both I heard bad unexpected things happen (segfaults, deadlocks etc...) It might be I ideal basically could do the installation within different title (say mod_python2.6) but I'm not sure if that's even possible. I additionally attempted the Chris Lea's repository but it is missing mod_pyhton for redhat 4 64 bit
