"Permitted memory size 138412032 bytes exhausted (attempted to allocate 71 bytes)" ive got this error using blogging platforms Admin site - what thats mean???

ItIs a PHP memory problem covered in the Wordpress documentation.

Here is a discussion of the same around the Wordpress Support Forum.

Essentially, Wordpress is applying an excessive amount of memory. You are able to adjust the quantity of memory for particularly Wordpress inside the wordpress-config.php file using, for instance,:

define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '96M');

To create the limit to 96MB.

In the manual:

Please be aware, this setting might not work in case your host doesn't permit growing the PHP memory limit--for the reason that event, speak to your host to improve the PHP memory limit. Also, observe that many hosts set the PHP limit at 8MB.

First, I truly appreciate the nicely written answer from Peter Ajtai. Because of this , why I put my question here among a lot of threads on a single subject.

However, I am quite surprised that you will find a lot of threads on a single problem on stackoverflow.com that we highly respected. This really is this type of prevalent problem and also to the very best of my understanding, it's more related to PHP instead of WordPress, Joomla or other CMSs or any web application frameworks. Please correct me if I am wrong anywhere. Even though many people stated they've had their problems solved, many left un-answered, lost and confused.

Yes, I've come across the references pointed out in Peter's answer and experienced several threads on StackOverflow before posting here.

So, I've done all of the following although a lot of stated I just have each one: 1) memory_limit = 512M (it's mentioned during my phpinfo(), this limit was set such a long time ago which i can't even remember when) 2) php_value memory_limit 512M in .htaccess 3)

define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '512M')

in wordpress-config.php

I am still obtaining the same fatal error:

Oddly enough, I can tell "Maximum size: " after i visited Tools > Import > WordPress during my WordPress dashboad. Based on the following, that "Maximum size" should accept the above mentioned configurations rather. http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Working_with_WordPress#How_do_I_Import_a_WordPress_WXR_file_when_it_says_it_is_too_large_to_import.3F

enter image description here

The precise error message (with exact memory figures) is the following:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 121026561 bytes) in /home/asianp/public_html/sg/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3155

Could someone please shed some light here?

Thanks greatly! Eric Nguyen
