I sell a PHP script that must have sites. Now we all know will be able to just tell the consumer to chmod your directory to 777, but that does not appear very secure. Can there be another (safe) way? They are novice customers which have purchased a PHP script, and so i cannot expect these to configure apache in a different way, the majority are on shared hosts anyway.

The script is creating pictures of the image directory the consumer supplies. Becasue it is apache that produces the files, it most likely needs 777? Can there be in whatever way around chmod that's simple for customers to complete?

Thanks, Wesley

[Which path may be the php script designed to create sites into?]

You simply need the road to fit in with the consumer who runs the php script, then your permission could just be 700 rather than 777.
