I'm speaking relating to this type of code

<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="example.com &raquo; Comments Feed" href="http://example.com/comments/feed/" />

I've attempted adding a remove action hook by hand in template's functions.php

remove_action('wp_head','feed_links_extra', 3);

However it does not take it off.

I've attempted wordpress head cleaner plugin regrettably additionally, it could not take it off.

Finally I've edited wordpress-includes/default-filters.php and said out

add_action( 'wp_head', 'feed_links_extra',3);

My comment feed links remain. I favor functions.php modification or plug ins apart from modifying the core files.

I've attempted crippling all of the plug ins and gone to default theme but appears like the answer isn't wordpress plugin or theme dependent. Regrettably nothing works! I'm using wordpress 3.2.1

Try that one rather.

remove_action( 'wp_head', 'feed_links', 2 );

Yours is perfect for such things as category feeds basically recall properly.

According to link coolsaint provided you can remove both after which clearly add in the posts feed. It is not probably the most elegant, however it entails it's not necessary to customize the core Wordpress files.

add_action('wp_head', 'addBackPostFeed');
function addBackPostFeed() {
    echo '<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS 2.0 Feed" href="'.get_bloginfo('rss2_url').'" />';
