I've got a client folder situated at http://www.example.com/client However, I have now installed SSL around the server, and wish to give a permanent redirect using HTACCESS to ensure that whenever /client is utilized, it redirects to: https://www.example.com/client

Anybody understand how to do this?

I have rerouted my domain names previously such as this:

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.com/$1 [L,R=301]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.example\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.com/$1 [L,R=301]

This will not modify the solution, however the site must still redirect to www.example.com FIRST, after which to https://www.example.com/client if for instance, http://www.example.co.za/client is joined.

Here is a fairly decent help guide to rewrites, together with a section regarding how to rewrite regular http to https if required: http://www.whoopis.com/howtos/apache-rewrite.html

Do this:

RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !on
RewriteRule ^client(/.*)?$ https://www.example.com%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]
