I've got a simple rewrite rule to fix some 404s on the site Sometimes on, however the redirect isn't functioning properly. I'm attempting to redirect www.site.com/eve.. to www.site.com/ with any the below (each attempted individually):

RewriteRule ^eve..$ http://www.site.com/ [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^eve.. http://www.site.com/ [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^eve\.\.$ http://www.site.com/ [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^eve\.\. http://www.site.com/ [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^eve\.\./?$ http://www.site.com/ [R=301,L,NC]

They are not effective. Nevertheless the following works:

RewriteRule ^eve http://www.site.com/ [R=301,L]

But this rule is simply too generic and I wish to exactly match the redirects to avoid future issues. what's wrong with my tries to redirect the precise URL?

Thanks

Escape the dots such as this:

RewriteRule ^eve\.\./?$ http://www.site.com/ [R=301,L,NC]

Us dot . means any character as well as your string eve.. can match every or eve11 too.
