I am trying to set up phpBB3 (3..10) on the brand-new installing of Fedora 16. Apache states this:

Server Version: Apache/2.2.21 (Unix) PHP/5.3.8
Server Built: Sep 13 2011 12:26:57
Server loaded APR Version: 1.4.5

Put together with APR Version: 1.4.5
Server loaded APU Version: 1.3.12
Put together with APU Version: 1.3.12
Module Miracle Number: 20051115:30

Timeouts: connection: 60 keep-alive: 5
MPM Title: Prefork
MPM Information: Max Daemons: 256 Threaded: no Forked: yes

Server Architecture: 64-bit
Server Root: /etc/httpd

Config File: /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
Server Constructed With:
-D APACHE_MPM_DIR="server/mpm/prefork"
-D APR_HAS_SENDFILE
-D APR_HAS_MMAP
-D APR_HAVE_IPV6 (IPv4-planned addresses enabled)
-D APR_USE_SYSVSEM_SERIALIZE
-D SINGLE_LISTEN_UNSERIALIZED_ACCEPT
-D APR_HAS_OTHER_CHILD
-D AP_HAVE_RELIABLE_PIPED_LOGS
-D HTTPD_ROOT="/etc/httpd"
-D SUEXEC_BIN="/usr/sbin/suexec"
-D DEFAULT_ERRORLOG="logs/error_log"
-D AP_TYPES_CONFIG_FILE="conf/mime.types"
-D SERVER_CONFIG_FILE="conf/httpd.conf"

MySQL is installed and states: MySQL client version: 5.5.18

After I start the phpBB3 install, it's all regulated good except:

Files and Sites
Needed - To be able to function properly phpBB must have the ability to access or email certain files or sites. If you notice “Not Found” you have to produce the relevant file or directory. If you notice “Unwritable” you have to alter the permissions around the file or directory to permit phpBB to create to it.

cache/: Found, Unwritable
files/: Found, Unwritable
store/: Found, Unwritable

Optional files and sites

Optional - These files, sites or permission configurations aren't needed. Cellular phone system will endeavour to make use of various strategies to create them if they don't exist or can't be written to. However, the existence of these will speed installation.

config.php: Found, Unwritable
images/avatars/upload/: Found, Unwritable

This is exactly what individuals products seem like on disk:

drwxrwxrwx. 2 apache apache 4096 Jan 13 20:08 cache
drwxrwxrwx. 2 apache apache 4096 Jan 13 20:08 files
drwxrwxrwx. 2 apache apache 4096 Jan 13 20:08 store

-rwxrwxrwx. 1 apache apache Jan 14 09:25 config.php

images/avatars:
drwxrwxrwx. 2 apache apache 4096 Jan 13 20:08 upload

The phpBB folks explained to request elsewhere, because the problem is not their own.

It appears obvious in my experience that my issue is a config problem, either using the Apache setup or even the PHP setup - but that is where my brain stops being helpful.

Any ideas?

Thanks ahead of time!

Attempt to CHMOD the folders pointed out, like

chmod -R /var/www/cache

Following advice I really got around the phpBB.org forum, I went the next instructions after which re-went the phpBB3 test, with perfect results!

chcon -t httpd_sys_content_rw_t /var/www/html/forum/cache/
chcon -t httpd_sys_content_rw_t /var/www/html/forum/files/
chcon -t httpd_sys_content_rw_t /var/www/html/forum/store/
chcon -t httpd_sys_content_rw_t /var/www/html/forum/config.php
chcon -t httpd_sys_content_rw_t /var/www/html/forum/images/avatars/upload

I suppose it has been too lengthy - I have never heard about SELinux!
