I am focusing on a Wordpress site and am getting trouble getting this site to format correctly in IE:

The primary content container (#shopp) is pressed lower about six inches around the page. This does not take place in other browsers, only IE. I have attempted various display options (inline) and positioning (absolute, relative, etc.) with no success.

Any ideas?

I observe that once the page loads in IE8, the 3 images within the slideshow appear at the same time then when the jQuery.cycle wordpress plugin initializes, the 2nd and third images disappear, departing the blank space.

This indicates that you could solve the issue by hiding all of the images prior to the DOM loads them. Try adding display: none; to .slide inside your CSS file.

try getting rid of overflow:hidden from #content - it's inside your ie.css file
