I understand it has most likely been clarified because it appears people are asking however i am getting problems obtaining the solutions around employed by me.

I've got a wordpress site inside a sub directory of some other site. after i try to call http://site.com/blog i recieve rerouted along with a 404 error however when i call http://site.com/blog/ the page renders not surprisingly.

The answer that keeps approaching appears to become

# and does not end with a slash
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !/$
# then add a trailing slash and redirect
RewriteRule (.*) $1/ [R=301,L]

but each time i request the page with no trailing slash i recieve rerouted to http://site.com/app/webroot/blog

the subfolder your blog continues to be installed is at the webroot of the cakephp application that we think may have something related to it?

I discovered the answer for this after more digging around around the internet

it had been solved for my with the addition of this towards the root .htaccess

RewriteRule ^blog$ blog/ [L]

Try adding the next to the peak of the .htaccess file, right under RewriteEngine On. I suppose the .htaccess file is incorporated in the root directory of the site.

#if this already exists, skip it, otherwise it should be before any other Rules
RewriteEngine on
#add this line to prevent your directory structure from showing up
RewriteBase /
