I'm attempting to upload a favicon during my wordpress site. I've adopted everything properly but nonetheless it is not showing the favicon. Fisrt I converted my pic to favicon.ico . I Quickly submitted it to my root directory. I Quickly added the next code to my header.php file within the <head> tag :

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://misspassiton.com.au/favicon.ico" />

I've attempted that one too

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="<?php bloginfo('template_directory'); ?>/favicon.ico" />

I've also visited : http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Favicon

but nothing appears to become working. I have no idea what is wrong by using it. I'd be grateful, if anybody may help me

Regards

Omayr.

Asking for http://misspassiton.com.au/favicon.ico, it responds but appears the image is damaged. Therefore the href is alright )

2 suggestions:

  • First: use something that converts images in ico (i.e. http://www.favicon.cc/)
  • Second: if you wish to use bloginfo(), you need to pass as parameter 'url' if you pass 'template_directory' it'll return 'http://example/home/wordpress/wordpress-content/styles/parent-theme' that's drastically wrong and as you can tell it does not indicate public root (begin to see the reference)

edit : add also type around the link (for IE)

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://misspassiton.com.au/favicon.ico" type="image/vnd.microsoft.icon" />

It appears that the .ico file is corrupted. I can not open it up during my browser. Apart from that, it appears like you do everything ok.

If you're able to open http://misspassiton.com.au/favicon.ico directly inside your browser, then you will know it's working.

Normally the browser caches the favicon so changes "won't instantly"

Normally if you're able to view it by heading towards the url within the browser then its good. presently http://misspassiton.com.au/favicon.ico isn't showing a image.

Following a good ico file is submitted and pointed to in through the document then you're set. Site visitors cache will usually have a couple of days to change images. I love to make use of a portable browser without any cache particularly to check on updates.
